Danbom Painting Donated To MCYMCA in
Memory of Betty Sapp
In loving memory of their mother, the late Betty Sapp (from Red Oak,
Iowa, community volunteer, leader, business owner, loving mother and wife)
Sharon Smith of Red Oak, Iowa and Dennis Sapp of Gig Harbor, Washington donated
a beautiful Carroll Danbom (Red Oak, Iowa artist) painting entitled
"Coming Home" to the Montgomery County Family YMCA.
Betty was one of the YMCA's first volunteers when the YMCA was
located at the county 4-H Exhibit Building. Sapp was one of the beloved
"Friday Girls" and came in to the YMCA storefront YMCA to stuff
envelopes, make telephone calls, or to do whatever else was asked of her. She
demonstrated her love of Red Oak and how she knew the YMCA organization, even
as a storefront operation, could benefit the residents of Red Oak and southwest
Iowa with having wonderful people and program opportunities.
"Coming Home" is a painting of a small midwestern town
that many people call home. It was painted in memory of Betty Sapp by Carroll
Danbom, as his mother and Betty were best of friends. The painting is from
northwest of Red Oak and it shows the Nishnabotna River meandering through the
landscape. The horses add to what is already a very peaceful scene. As YMCA
members, guest, volunteers and staff view the painting which has been proudly
displayed at the YMCA's Customer Service Center, people are asked to place
yourself in the scene and escape into this world of tranquility for a moment,
as well as take time to enjoy the beauty of the nature that surrounds us.
