Annual Support Campaign
. Tom and Carrie Stamets are the new co-chairs for the 2010 Membership for Everyone Campaign with a goal of $39,000! So far $28,581.83 has been raised in 2010.
Montgomery County Family YMCA is open to people of all genders, faiths, races, abilities, ages, and income. Thanks to the "Membership for Everyone" financial assistance program, no one is turned away due to the inability to pay. Money raised subsidizes the YMCA programs and services for hundreds of kids, teens and families in our local service area so they can meet friends and enjoy the benefits and activities of the YMCA.
If you would like more information about the "Membership For Everyone" campaign or would like to make a contribution please contact the YMCA at 623-2161 or email Nick at execdir@mcymca.com or stop by the YMCA at 101 East Cherry Street in beautiful Legion Park.
Committed to Character Development
One of the best things the Montgomery County Family YMCA does is develop character. Our character shows in our behavior – how we practice our values. Using programs devoted to developing the whole person (spirit, mind and body) such as sports, fitness, aquatics, childcare, camping, etc., we lead by example. The Montgomery County Family YMCA develops character by demonstrating and teaching the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Understanding and implementing these values are a big part of our challenge and commitment. Many social problems in our country are addressed through rehabilitation. The Montgomery County Family YMCA asserts that the best long-term solution is challenging people to accept and demonstrate positive values – and that is YMCA Character Development.
Volunteer Opportunities
The Montgomery County Family YMCA has launched a new effort to recruit more volunteers. According to Pat Gilliland, YMCA Volunteer Coordinator, "We think it's very important to keep our organization rooted in the community. That's why we want to encourage volunteer involvement as much as possible." "Volunteers make our job much easier. We wouldn't be able to reach nearly as many children and families if we didn't have help from concerned, committed people from the community."
A YMCA volunteer can lead a youth group, coach a basketball team, support a fundraising drive, lead an aerobics class, chaperone a teen dance or pick another way to help out. Gilliland said anyone is welcome to volunteer at the YMCA- men, women, teens, adults and seniors.
The YMCA is the largest nonprofit community service organization in America. It works to nurture children, support families and make all communities healthy and safe places to live. There are more than 2,000 YMCA's in the U.S. All of them are directed by volunteer boards.
